Jamshaid Ashraf’s Contributions – Philanthropy

As a philanthropist, social welfare is a topic close to Jamshaid’s heart. He has contributed a lot out of his own personal funds, as well as tied up with NGOs, and corporates to promote various activities related to Social Welfare. These can be broadly categorised into the below 8 sections:

  1. Education
    • Education is one of the most important building blocks for the future generation. Jamshaid Ashraf realises this, and towards this he sponsors 10 deserving students every year, who cannot afford further education, for university studies post 12th with a full scholarship
    • There is also planning underway to build a girls high school in his constituency – Balia, Begusarai
    • Lastly, through sponsoring Hunar program, Jamshaid is working on providing skills training to girls so they can find employment and become independent and self-sufficient. With his own personal funds, he has already initiated training for over a 100 girls, and is tying up with an NGO to provide this for hundreds of more girls throughout Bihar. 1. Water supply
    • Having access to fresh water is a basic human necessity. Jamshaid had promised the villages in his constituency that he would get hand pumps installed in every village
    • Living up to his promise, he had 4 hand pumps installed in every village, thereby ensuring villagers have access to one of life’s most basic and critical requirements – fresh water.

  1. Humanitarian Aid and Relief
    • Floods: Unfortunately, floods are an every year reality in Bihar, and lot of people are severely affected by these floods. Every year, Jamshaid donates at least 20 boats to various flood affected villages across Bihar. In addition to this, he also distributes free food to all the flood affected people of his constituency
    • Winters: Winters in Bihar are severe, and every year, there are deaths related to the cold. To prevent these, and to ease the suffering of the poor, Jamshaid distributes 500 blankets every year to the really poor.

  1. Building and computerising Madarsas
    • Jamshaid has built a huge madarsa for the education of muslim children in Pakthaul, near Barauni. In addition, he has also built a madarsa in Gulbarga, in Karnataka
    • To ensure that the level of education at these madarsas is at par technologically with the rest of India, Jamshaid has computerised 13 madarsas, and the plan is underway to computerise 17 more, leading to a total of 30 computerised madarsas.

  1. Religious Sites – Building mosques and temples
    • Jamshaid has financially and practically helped in the building of many mosques across Bihar, as well as 5 temples in Bihar

  1. Community Weddings
    • For the poor in Bihar, having a wedding is an expensive, and often unaffordable proposition
    • Towards this end, Jamshaid has financially sponsored and organised mass community weddings – with over 200 couples getting married, irrespective of caste or religion

  1. Healthcare – providing mobile clinics and dispensaries
    • Availability of clinics, doctors and dispensaries is not always easy, and requires travelling for some of the villagers, which is difficult when they are sick. To make it easier for them, Jamshaid provided mobile clinics for his constituency– which have a doctor as well as a compounder, and these provide free medicines of up to Rs. 1 lac per month to the people who cannot afford to buy medicines
